In Europe there are currently about 2 million scientists busy in university and industrial research. With fast moving and interdisciplinary research they produce a huge number of diverse data formats and file types. In order to do justice to these data, to evaluate them and to gain insights from them, highly qualified researchers and experts spend unnecessarily much of their precious time on the search for data files and their manual evaluation. We at FURTHRresearch solve this problem with our software for efficient research data management.

What is your digital solution?

FURTHRresearch gives researchers their time back. Research data – raw data, metadata and analysed data – can be traced in a software FURTHRmind linked database. Complex evaluation algorithms, which are based on the raw and metadata can be easily integrated into our software. Through intelligent structuring of the research data, our software automatically determines average values of the experiments and enables compare a large number of different experiments in seconds. The data is also available after and easy to find for a long time, accessible from everywhere. With our software solution, researchers are one click ahead and can use their time for what is really important: developing innovative products and processes for our world of tomorrow.

How much does your idea differ from existing solutions? What do you do better?

The key to our business model is versatile software that enables researchers to independently develop new and be able to adapt findings and research processes. With electronic laboratory notebooks (ELN), data files can be flexibly structured and linked with metadata. The disadvantage: The data is still hidden in various file formats and the metadata often in free text formats. These formats deny automated comparison and transfer the data to AI algorithms. Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) feed data into databases, but use standardized evaluation routines. Rigid routines limit the creativity of the researchers. Great breakthroughs in research and disruptive innovations usually do not arise from standardized research procedures.
With FURTHRmind we combine the advantages of ELNs and LIMS: FURTHRmind is flexible like an ELN and allows were versatile in their use. At the same time FURTHRmind offers automated read-in and evaluation routines, as are known from LIMS, with the difference that these routines can be created by the users themselves.

What does qualify your team and how is the structure of your team? 

Our young team consists of developers with and without experience in research. On the software side we offer through our computer scientist Niklas van Detten (technical manager) a software according to the latest Standard on.
Through profound know-how in programming combined with expertise in research Dr. Daniel Menne (managing director) and Cheng-Han Lin (customer manager) build the bridge to the user.
Hannah Roth (sales manager) knows the software in detail as a user, sells and markets our solution at the customer’s site. The team structure is deliberately open and flexible, in order to react agilely to changes and new projects to be able to. New topics and areas are developed proactively in changing teams.
